Everyone has been so focused on Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Cooper DeJean that they've seemed to have forgotten how great Quinyon Mitchell is. The NFL players did not.
The latest rankings of the top 100 players in the NFL, voted by the players, had Mitchell ranked 49th. While he may not grab a ton of interceptions, Mitchell has been dominant in the secondary for Philly.
"The second of the cornerbacks the Eagles drafted to appear on this list, first-round selection Mitchell was tasked with shadowing some of the best wideouts in the game as a 22-year-old rookie and was more than up to the task, playing shutdown defense throughout the year. While his stat line might not jump out on first glance the way it does for other players, that's partially because quarterbacks just weren't throwing his way due to his sticky coverage. Among the star WRs he limited to few or no catches, Mitchell completely silenced the Commanders' in Week 11, leading to praise from the NFC East rival. Many had Mitchell as the best defensive rookie in the NFL last season, and though he ultimately finished second in voting for the honor, it's clear the cornerback is already playing like a veteran. The Eagles have to be eager to see just how high he can climb in Year 2 and beyond."

Last season was special for the 2024 first-round pick, who had stifling coverage on receivers all season. Besides the 46 tackles and 12 pass deflections, Mitchell also allowed a passer rating of 87.2 and a completion percentage of 54.7%. Mitchell was first in the NFL last year in yards after catch allowed per reception with just 1.78.
He was even better in the postseason as he nabbed his first two career interceptions. He also allowed a passer rating of 33.3. Unfortunately, he came up short in the Defensive Rookie of the Year voting, finishing second.
Throughout the offseason, Mitchell has been receiving praise from media outlets for his performance. He and DeJean are being viewed as the future of the Eagles' secondary and are expected to continue improving.
Good for Mitchell to get his time in the spotlight and be acknowledged by his peers for his great work. After one season and achieving a ranking of 49th, it's crazy to think about, as he will likely move up in the rankings in no time.
