If you enjoy highly skilled perimeter play, Week 4 has a treat for you.

Philadelphia Eagles standout third-year cornerback Quinyon Mitchell will take the field against Los Angeles Rams stud wide receiver and 13-year veteran Davante Adams on Sunday.

After a quiet Week 1 performance against San Francisco, Adams came alive against the New York Giants in Week 2 with 10 catches for 195 yards and two scores. Adams again went off for a big game in Week 3 with 13 receptions for 137 yards in a loss to Denver.

For the year, Adams is third in the NFL in receiving yards with 358 and his 19.9 yards per reception average is tied for fourth. Mitchell will likely be tasked with trying to bottle up Adams for a large portion of Sunday’s game. Mitchell’s stats are modest this year with two tackles for loss and two pass defenses, but he is a reigning First Team All-Pro and finished second in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting in 2024.

While Adams has a slight edge in size and a major edge in experience, Mitchell won the individual battle in decisive fashion the last time the pair met on the field. In Week 3 last year, Mitchell shadowed Adams on 27 of 34 pass routes, which equated to 79.4 percent of all of Adams’ routes. On 22 snaps, Mitchell lined up directly against Adams and allowed two receptions for 12 yards on five targets. Adams was essentially taken out of the game by Mitchell’s blanket coverage.

Even if Mitchell is able to eliminate Adams from having a big game, fellow Rams standout receiver Puka Nacua might be another prominent receiving target to deal with. Nacua is listed as questionable with a hip injury as of Wednesday. However, Rams head coach Sean McVay expects Nacua to suit up Sunday. Fellow Eagles corner Riq Woolen would likely draw that assignment as he and Nacua are former NFC West division rivals.

It will be difficult for Mitchell to replicate his 2025 performance against Adams because the flaws on Philadelphia’s defense are many. With only three sacks through the first three games, Mitchell’s job becomes exponentially harder if future Hall of Fame quarterback Matt Stafford has a comfortable pocket to operate from for most of the game. It will be paramount for Philadelphia to generate some sort of pass rush to help out their backfield mate.
