The path to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is becoming clearer, with just seven spots left to be filled. Following the successful 20-team edition co-hosted by the USA and West Indies in 2024, excitement now shifts to the upcoming Regional Finals scheduled for 2025.
Regional Finals will decide the last qualifiers. Canada became the first team to qualify through the regional path. They went unbeaten in the Americas Regional Final.
Wins over Bermuda, Bahamas, and Cayman Islands sealed their spot. They secured qualification before the last match and finished comfortably ahead of others.
The 2026 T20 World Cup will feature 20 teams and 55 matches. The format stays the same. 4 groups of 5, then 2 Super Eights groups; followed by semi-finals and a final.
India and Sri Lanka are automatic qualifiers as hosts. Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, USA, and West Indies qualified by reaching the Super Eights in 2024. Pakistan, New Zealand, and Ireland got in through ICC T20I rankings.
Now, the focus shifts to the remaining 3 Regional Finals. These will be held in Africa, Asia-East Asia Pacific, and Europe in 2025.
The Africa Regional Final will be played in Zimbabwe from September 19 to October 4. 2 teams will qualify. Zimbabwe are hosts and strong contenders.
They rejoined the main qualifiers after a poor 2024 campaign. Namibia and Uganda, both part of the 2024 World Cup, are also in. Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Nigeria, and Botswana will also compete. The competition is expected to be tight.
The Asia-East Asia Pacific Final will take place from October 1 to 17. 3 teams will qualify. Nepal, Oman, and Papua New Guinea are direct entrants.
Japan and Samoa join after winning their sub-regional events. UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, and Malaysia also advanced from Asia’s sub-regional tournaments. The mix of styles and teams makes this event wide open.
The Europe Regional Final is set for July 5 to 11. 2 teams will qualify. Scotland and the Netherlands are the favorites. They are joined by Italy, Jersey, and Guernsey.
Italy are boosted by former Australia batter Joe Burns, who now leads the side. Jersey and Guernsey earned their spots after beating tough opponents in their sub-regional groups.
Ireland qualified through rankings and will skip the regional path.
With only 7 teams left to join the main event, the stage is set for a thrilling qualification finish. The final lineup for the 2026 T20 World Cup will soon be complete. Fans can expect exciting contests as teams fight for a place in cricket’s biggest stage.
