One of the biggest conversation starters when it comes to key players getting on the field in preseason is the injury aspect, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have just found that out.
In their first preseason outing, head coach Todd Bowles decided to have some of his starters play, which we understand with the desire to get some live football reps and the chance to feel "real" football.
However, sometimes that comes with the chance of getting injured.
Running back Rachaad White, who totaled 26 yards from six carries, looked good early on...until he suffered a groin injury on his last rushing attempt.
Quarterback Baker Mayfield detailed earlier in the week of how much of a luxury it was to have White and Bucky Irving as pass-catching options, but now there might be no White going forward.
Of course, we don't know the severity of the injury, but the fact the Buccaneers pulled him from the game straight away might be an indication. Yes, the franchise could have just been playing the cautious game, too, given it is only preseason.
But this is why so many teams are hesitant to play their starters in the preseason, and not have them even take a snap, due to this exact reason.
If White's injury isn't good, then who knows how long he could be out for a significant period, and that could damage the Buccaneers' run game to begin the season.
There is always a danger of playing your starters in preseason, and the Buccaneers just saw one of their key starters limp out of game one.
