Raheem Mostert signs with Dolphins, reuniting with Mike McDaniel

Mike McDaniel will have a familiar weapon to play with as he takes the reins in Miami.

Raheem Mostert is signing a one-year deal with the Dolphins, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The deal is worth $3.125 million per Rapoport, and will reunite Mostert with new Miami head coach McDaniel after the pair worked together with the 49ers from 2017-21.

McDaniel and Mostert experienced symbiotic growth in San Francisco, as the running back had trouble sticking with a team until he landed with the 49ers and eventually McDaniel. Mostert was a member of the Eagles, Dolphins, Ravens, Browns, Jets and Bears in some capacity from 2015-16, largely as a return specialist.

At the end of the 2016 season, Mostert was signed to the 49ers' practice squad. His 2017 season was spent also largely in a return role before it was cut short due to injury, but once he returned in 2018 he began to carve out a role in the backfield.

By 2019, Mostert was ready to be unleashed. He played a full 16 games for the 49ers that year with McDaniel as his run game coordinator, taking 137 carries for 772 yards and scoring 10 touchdowns on the ground and through the air.

In 2020, Mostert was ready to establish himself even further, but dealt with injury concerns throughout the year. He logged 104 carries for 521 yards and caught 16 passes for 156 yards over eight games.

The 2021 season was another lost campaign for Mostert, as he suffered a knee injury in week one. With Miami, he'll look to stay healthy and prove himself to be the runner he showed himself to be when he could stay on the field under McDaniel.
