After Lonnie Johnson Jr.’s broken fibula, the Las Vegas Raiders have made a move to keep their secondary depth strong.
On Sunday, the Raiders announced that they have signed safety Terrell Edmunds. In a corresponding roster move, the team has waived wide receiver Seth Williams with an injury designation.
A seven-year veteran, Edmunds was a first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2018 NFL Draft, playing five seasons for the team before returning in 2024. He also has played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars over the past two seasons.
In 84 regular-season games, Edmunds has amassed 465 tackles, seven and a half sacks, six interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He has also recorded 12 tackles in two postseason games.
Along with filling Johnson’s spot on the roster, Edmunds was where Jamal Adams was before the latter was shifted to linebacker.
Edmunds essentially has a path to a 53-man roster spot available to him if he impresses for the rest of training camp. Jeremy Chinn, Isaiah Pola-Mao and Thomas Harper are the only safeties currently locked on the roster, so Edmunds will compete with Chris Smith and Trey Taylor for what could be the last safety on the roster.
The Raiders have had no issue bringing in veteran free agents to bolster the defense, and Edmunds is the latest addition.
