The Las Vegas Raiders are pretty thin at the wide receiver spot in terms of layers who have established themselves at the NFL level after Jakobi Meyers. The franchise did bring in some talent in the draft by taking Jack Bech out of TCU in the second round, as well as Dont’e Thornton in the fourth.

Needless to say, the opportunity to make an immediate impact for the silver and black will be there. Bech is coming off an outstanding senior season at TCU, but like most second-round picks in this year’s draft, it has taken some time for him to reach a contract agreement.

But that time is no longer, as the Raiders announced they have agreed to a four-year rookie deal with Bech, via Tashan Reed of The Athletic:

Because the Houston Texans signed Jayden Higgins to the first-ever fully guaranteed rookie deal for a second-round pick, it created a bit of a standoff between teams and players as they negotiated the proper terms. But with the San Francisco 49ers agreeing to a deal with their second-round pick, everyone else’s seems to be now falling into place.

Last season, Bech was outstanding at TCU, finishing with 62 catches for 1,034 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior, and he will be looking to continue that level of production at the next level with the Raiders. Bech is a polished receiver with excellent route-running skills and hands who thrived against both man and zone coverage.

Training camp will determine where Bech ultimately stands on the depth chart, but having this contract finalized will allow him to focus solely on dominating on the field and becoming a big part of this Raiders offense as a rookie.

Raiders owner Mark Davis jokingly calls Dont’e Thornton the ‘Al Davis pick’

While Jack Bech was the higher pick, it was Dont’e Thornton who turned some heads during OTAs. Thornton possesses physical gifts that can’t be taught, with his combination of size and speed. However, he proved to be a more polished receiver than initially believed when selected.

The late, great Al Davis was known to have a special affinity for skill position players, particularly those with exceptional physical traits and speed. As such, Davis’ son, current owner Mark Davis, jokingly referred to Thornton as the ‘Al Davis pick’ by the Raiders in this year’s draft.
