Raiders bolster tight end room after Brock Bowers injury

Raiders call up practice squad TE in light of Brock Bowers’ injury

The Raiders announced Saturday afternoon that they are calling up tight end Chris Myarick from the practice squad, along with wide receiver Cody White.

Myarick is a journeyman tight end who has bounced around different practice squads since he went undrafted in 2019. He has never recorded a stat in the NFL, but there is a chance he could finally see his first action this week.

The only other active tight end Las Vegas has is Ian Thomas, but he is much more of a blocker who has only produced 1,176 yards over eight seasons in the pros. Also, Mayer typically plays the role of an in-line tight end, so the Raiders could be looking for someone to fill Bowers’ role as a guy who moves all around the field.

An interesting wrinkle is that Myarick spent time with the Dolphins last season, and although it’s a new coaching staff, he still has some familiarity with some of the players. He knows what Miami is about and could offer some information to the Raiders about his former team, which could help him see the field.

Bowers isn’t expected to be out too long, as the team didn’t place him on injured reserve, which would knock him out for at least four games. But they need someone to pick up the slack in the meantime, so Myarick could play a factor for Las Vegas for the time being.
