The Las Vegas Raiders have been clamoring for wide receiver help since the departure of Davante Adams via trade during the 2024 NFL season. New head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek addressed this immediately during the offseason.

Spytek and Carroll selected three wideouts during the 2025 NFL Draft, and they also added veterans like Collin Johnson, Kyle Philips and Phillip Dorsett into the fold. The roster has been constantly changing this offseason, and that continued after the first preseason game.

Last week, the Raiders signed Kawaan Baker and released Philips in a corresponding move. On Monday, the team released Baker and signed wide receiver Marquez Callaway.

Raiders Sign WR Marquez Callaway, Release WR Kawaan Baker

Callaway was a member of the Silver and Black during the 2023 offseason under then-head coach Josh McDaniels. He failed to make the final roster and has bounced around the NFL ever since.

The bulk of his NFL career has been spent with the New Orleans Saints, and he even led the team in receiving yards during the 2021 NFL season. He caught 46 passes for 698 yards and six touchdowns that year in New Orleans.

At 6-foot-2 and 204 pounds, Callaway profiles as mainly an outside threat, but he has some experience playing in the slot as well. This is the kind of versatility that offensive coordinator Chip Kelly covets in a wide receiver.

Raiders Wide Receiver Battle Intensifies After Latest Signing

Las Vegas' starting lineup seems solidified, with Jakobi Meyers and rookie Dont'e Thornton Jr. lined up out wide and third-year pro Tre Tucker in the slot. Rookie second-rounder Jack Bech is a lock to make the roster as well, but little else is established.

Callaway will have to beat out players like Dorsett, Johnson and recently emerging Shedrick Jackson for a spot on the end of the roster. He has more experience than Johnson or Jackson, and he has been productive far more recently than Dorsett has.

He'll have joint practices against the San Francisco 49ers and two more preseason games to establish himself as a rosterable player in Las Vegas. Perhaps his second stint with the Raiders will provide a better result for the five-year veteran.
