Raiders bring in wide receiver with Pete Carroll ties

The Las Vegas Raiders have officially put together another reunion.

On Monday, sources reported that the Raiders have signed veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett.

In a corresponding roster move, the team has waived wide receiver Justin Shorter.

With Lockett’s signing, the Raiders continue to deepen the ties with the Seattle Seahawks, reuniting the receiver with quarterback Geno Smith and head coach Pete Carroll.

After being released by the Seahawks last offseason, Lockett was hoping to get a spark in his career with the Tennessee Titans and first overall pick Cam Ward. That fresh start never materialized, however, with Lockett only catching 10 passes for 70 receiving yards.

Lockett now joins a wide receiver group lacking in experience, with the only other current receiver on the roster with more than three NFL seasons under their belt is Jakobi Meyers.

With that in mind, the decision to acquire Lockett sparks some interest. Meyers is currently dealing with knee and toe injuries, and his trade request from the preseason has not been pulled as of late. While the Raiders have reneged to comply with this request, bringing in Lockett could suggest that the team is considering a deal.

Lockett is far from the receiver he was with the Seahawks, but he is a weapon that Smith and Carroll can trust, and that is not the worst thing in the world for the Raiders right now.
