It's become a somewhat forgotten part of the story that the Baltimore Ravens backed out of acquiring star pass-rusher Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this offseason due to reported concerns related to the meniscus repair he underwent this past winter.
While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, first-year Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak was asked about Crosby's recovery as it pertains to the 28-year-old participating in training-camp practices later this summer.
"That’s the goal [to have Crosby ready for training camp]," Kubiak said, per Eduardo Razo of Heavy. "He’s still the first one in the building every day, working. He’s a leader on our team, and when he’s out there, you feel his presence. Yes, we’re counting on him being there for training camp, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Maxx was ahead of schedule."
While Crosby reportedly requested a trade at some point after the 2025 season wrapped up, he and the Raiders now seem to be moving forward with their working relationship through at least the start of the upcoming campaign. The perception exists that no team would match the Raiders' asking price for Crosby after the Ravens allegedly got spooked about a "degenerative issue" in his knee. Thus, he and Las Vegas may need each other for the foreseeable future.
"He’s going to be there as much as possible, and he knows we’re counting on him to be a leader," Kubiak added about Crosby. "He’s showing his face, but he’s also very engaged in the meetings, and he’s one of those guys you’ve got to say 'whoa' to. You’ve got to pull him back. He might jump in there during team periods if you’re not watching. He’s that competitive. Really fired up to get to coach him."
Some think the Raiders could make Crosby available to would-be buyers this fall if he plays well and Las Vegas has a losing record in late October. For now, he will look to get good to go for the Raiders' Week 1 home game versus the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 13.
