Raiders Drop Hint About Possible QB Move

The 2025 NFL Draft is just a week away, and it's still not entirely clear what the Las Vegas Raiders are going to do. Many expect them to take Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty with the No. 6 pick, but it's still possible they target another position.

The Raiders were heavily linked to quarterbacks prior to trading for Geno Smith. Once the team gave him a two-year contract extension, it didn't seem like the team would consider a quarterback until next year at the earliest.

However, that might not be the case. Even though the team is committed to Smith, general manager John Spytek left the door open for drafting a quarterback.

"Remain open-minded," Spytek said of his thoughts on the quarterback position ahead of the draft during a Friday press conference. "Anybody that can help us at the position in particular is going to be up for consideration. You guys have all done your investigative journalism enough to know that we've brought some quarterbacks in, and that wasn't by accident.

"We're open to the most important position in sports to get right. We're super excited to have Geno here, and we continue to expect him to be here for a while, but you can't have too many of those guys."

It would be quite a surprising move if the Raiders used the No. 6 pick on a quarterback, but adding one with any of their other picks could be a logical move. Smith is a more than capable starter, but he's also 34 and might not be a long-term option.
