Derek Carr is entering his final season under contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, and it sounds like the sides want to extend their relationship. Such an extension will likely be quite lucrative for the quarterback.
On Tuesday, Jordan Schultz reported that the new Raiders head coach and GM pairing both support Las Vegas paying Carr top-tier QB money. Schultz also said that Carr would be open to a short-term contract.
Sources: With the full support of Dave Ziegler and Josh McDaniels, the #Raiders plan to offer Derek Carr top-tier QB money. I’m told that Carr is seeking in the range of $35M+. It’s also worth noting that both sides are open to a short-term extension. https://t.co/d9J2cw2p1E

The Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Vincent Bonsignore says a Carr extension would likely be in the $40 million-per-season range.
As it relates to Derek Carr and the @Raiders, the sense is no proposals have been exchanged yet on an extension. You'll see various numbers being thrown around, but, as I've been reporting, any extension would likely be in the $40m per season range.

Carr, who is turning 31 soon, is set to make just under $20 million in 2022. That would mark the fourth straight season he made $20 million or a shade under that amount, which is a pretty good bargain for competent quarterback. But at $35 million to $40 million, Carr starts taking up a big part of the salary cap, leaving questions about how well you could build around him.
Carr passed for 4,804 yards, 23 touchdowns and 14 interceptions last season.
