The Las Vegas Raiders' starting running back spot is spoken for for the foreseeable future. The team made former Boise State star Ashton Jeanty the highest-drafted running back since Saquon Barkley in 2018, which means they are committed to him for at least the next few years.
However, Jeanty took a lot of carries in college. If the Raiders want him to have a long career, they can't overwork him, especially early on. The team did sign Raheem Mostert in free agency and still has Zamir White on the roster, but they are looking into bringing more youth to the room.
Tarleton State announced recently that running back Kayvon Britten has been invited to the Raiders' rookie mini-camp. He'll have the chance to show the team that he deserves an actual spot on the roster.
Britten is built very similarly to Jeanty. He's short but stocky at 5-foot-7, 195 pounds. He was also highly productive in college. Last season, he rushed for 1,977 yards on 340 attempts with 18 touchdowns.
Granted, Tarleton State is a Division I FCS, so he wasn't facing NFL defenders on a week-to-week basis. That said, rushing for almost 2,000 yards in any division is nothing to ignore.
It's easy to understand why the Raiders would rather get a look at Britten before offering him a contract. There's no way to know if his skill set will translate once he plays against NFL defenders.
That said, he'd be an interesting developmental prospect for the Raiders to bring in to see what he can do with some more practice.
