Raiders GM gives update on possible Maxx Crosby extension

It appears that at some point, edge-rusher Maxx Crosby will get an extension to remain a member of the Las Vegas Raiders amid the trade rumors surrounding him.

Raiders general manager John Spytek met with reporters Tuesday morning in Indianapolis and was asked about the Crosby situation and if and when there will be an extension at some point. Spytek didn't give a timetable but alluded to Crosby being a "Raider for a long time," which is good news for the organization and a fan base that was worried about a trade.

"I don't want to make any predictions or speak too much about that," Spytek told reporters. "I just would say I have an immense amount of respect for Maxx. No. 1, the way he plays the game; the passion he plays with. This is what (head coach) Pete (Carroll) and I have talked about. We want that to be what a Raider looks like. He's a great shining example of that, too. He's also a really skilled and talented player on top of it, too. I envision Maxx being a Raider for a long time here. I think that's what he wants, too. We'll go forward with that in mind."

Crosby has no guaranteed money coming this season and his contract voids in 2027, according to Over the Cap.

Keeping the four-time Pro Bowler as a Raider for a while matters because of the stability he brings to the defense. The Raiders brought back defensive coordinator Patrick Graham to help bring that stability and continuity to the defense in hopes of keeping Crosby.

The Raiders know the importance of having Crosby. In his six-year career, he has sacked quarterbacks 59.5 times and has 144 quarterback hits, 23 pass deflections and nine forced fumbles.

Crosby said he is tired of losing and wants to see a plan in place. He was encouraged after watching head coach Pete Carroll and Spytek's introductory news conference. He met with both, who shared their vision with him and a plan on adding pieces to help Crosby on offense and defense. It is likely a relief that Spytek calmed the nerves of the fans.

Now, it is up to Spytek and Carroll to deliver for Crosby on and off the field.
