Raiders Great Named Semifinalist for Pro Football HOF
USA TODAY Sports

Las Vegas Raiders great Eric Allen may finally get to be named a Hall of Famer for his years in the NFL.

On Tuesday, the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced its 25 Modern-Era Semifinalists for the Class of 2024. Allen was one of them.

Allen was a member of the Oakland Raiders for his final four NFL seasons. He played a total of 14 seasons, ultimately having tallied six Pro-Bowl trips and one first-team All-Pro honor.

Allen was drafted in the second round of the 1988 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles.

His first Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections came in just his second season. He went on to be named to five straight Pro Bowls (1991-1995), the last having been in his first season with the New Orleans Saints.

Allen spent three seasons in New Orleans before going to Oakland.

By the end of the 2000 season -- his second-to-last -- Allen had led the league with three interceptions returned for touchdowns, one less than his single-season record of four, which he totaled in the 1993 season. That mark set a league record that would not be broken for 30 years.

Allen was a part of the Raiders' 2000-01 AFC Championship run that ended against the eventual Super Bowl XXXV champions, the Baltimore Ravens. His final NFL game came the following year in Oakland's divisional round loss to the New England Patriots -- also known as the "Tuck Rule" game.

As a member of the Silver and Black, Allen registered 219 combined tackles, a sack, four touchdowns, 15 interceptions and 40 passes defensed in 58 games.

This is the fourth time Allen has finished as a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The list will be narrowed down to 15 in January. The Class of 2024 will then be announced during the NFL Honors on Feb. 8.

Some of the more notableĀ semifinalists include San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers legend Antonio Gates, nine-time Pro-Bowl defensive end Julius Peppers and Super Bowl champions like Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison and Dallas Cowboys defensive back Darren Woodson.

The Silver and Black will return home to Allegiant Stadium to take on the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, December 10, at 4:05 p.m. EST/1:05 p.m. PST.
