Raiders HC Antonio Pierce breaks down how their two young tight ends will fit in the new offense

The Las Vegas Raiders made a strategic move when they selected tight end Brock Bowers in the first round. This decision wasn't a surprise due to any shortcomings on Bowers' part but rather because it raised intriguing questions. After all, the team had just drafted a promising tight-end star the previous season. This strategic choice by the Raiders has sparked a discussion among fans and analysts, adding an element of anticipation to the upcoming season.

However, a closer look at the offensive strategy that new coordinator Luke Getsy is implementing in Las Vegas reveals a promising future. It's clear that two tight ends cannot only coexist but thrive in this system. With the right play-calling and quarterback performance, the Raiders have the potential to build an elite offense. This prospect should ignite excitement among fans and analysts as they envision the team's offensive prowess in the upcoming season.

But the Raiders are more than excited with what they have in their two tight ends.

"Successful, I mean you look at the National Football League it's difficult. I mean, being a former player going against 12 personnel, the matchups, the alignments that they get you in, what you do defensively, I think, becomes an issue as well. But you're looking at it, really," Antonio Pierce said on Friday.

"I think we're fortunate to have two tight ends on our roster that, in the last four years of college football, were pretty much the best two, and I think hopefully that creates issues. It's going to create issues for us at practice; we'll see that. In our division, we've got some really good tight ends, so it'll be good reps for us as well."

Getsy will run many two-tight end sets in his offense, and those tight ends have to be able to run block to sell the play-action later in the game. The Raiders not only have two guys who can pass block, but they also have two guys who can catch the ball at a high clip.

And with Bowers, they have a tight end who brings a unique set of skills to the table. Bowers isn't confined to the traditional role of a tight end. He has demonstrated his versatility by playing in the slot and even lining up in the backfield during his college career. Georgia featured some plays where Bowers showcased his speed and agility, taking an end-around play to the house. This versatility is a key asset for the Raiders, as it allows them to vary their offensive formations and keep the defense guessing.

In 2024, we should see a much better offense than we saw last year, and a big reason why is because of the two tight ends we will see. What we do know, is that Brock Bowers loves to score the ball.
