The Las Vegas Raiders have seen many of the greatest players in franchise history be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, and another is prepared to join them in immortality.
At the NFL Awards on Thursday, former Raiders cornerback Eric Allen was one of four players named as part of the Hall of Fame Class of 2025.
He joins former San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers tight end Antonio Gates, former Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen and former Green Bay Packers tight end Sterling Sharpe as an inductee.
A second round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1988 NFL Draft, Allen joined the then-Oakland Raiders after seven years with the Eagles and three with the New Orleans Saints. He played 58 games (56 starts) across four seasons with the Raiders, recording 15 interceptions and three pick-sixes.
A six-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro, Allen amassed a total of 54 interceptions across his 14 NFL seasons.
“I went up against him in practice every day when we were teammates in Oakland,” former Raiders quarterback and MVP Rich Gannon said about his former teammate.
“I watched him cover Tim Brown and Jerry Rice in practice. We had Eric on one side and Charles Woodson on the other. I have a pretty unique perspective on who he was and how good he was. He was the best I’ve ever played with or against at disguising his intentions. He would show you press when he was playing down. He would play off five yards, then come up and jam you.”
Allen is the only player in NFL history to have three pick-sixes in two different seasons. He recorded four such plays in 1993, setting a single-season record that stood for over 30 years.
Allen, as well as the other inductees, will officially be enshrined in the Hall of Fame during Enshrinement Week in August.
A huge congratulations is in order for Allen and the other Hall of Fame inductees.
