Raiders make moves to add to secondary depth

The Las Vegas Raiders are beefing up the secondary just as training camp begins.

On Tuesday, the Raiders have signed safety Jamal Adams and cornerback JT Woods, according to Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, respectively.

A former All-Pro safety with ties to Raiders head coach Pete Carroll, Adams is hoping to revitalize his NFL career.

A first-round pick of the New York Jets in 2017, Adams emerged as one of the best safeties in the NFL. He was traded in 2021 to the Seattle Seahawks, but he was released in March 2024. After spending last season with the Tennessee Titans and Detroit Lions, Adams is hoping to get his career back on track.

Woods has had a much rougher go in his NFL career, not living up to the promise he showed as a 2022 third-round pick of the Los Angeles Chargers. He has only appeared in 13 games in his NFL career, and has not played since 2023. Woods has since aimed to work as a cornerback, and he fits the size-speed threshold that Carroll typically values in his defensive backs, prompting the Raiders to take a chance on him.

It will be interesting to see where they fit on the Raiders’ depth chart, but the moves clearly were done with the goal of improving their secondary in mind.
