LAS VEGAS – Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew was named the Week 11 starter for the team’s upcoming game against the Miami Dolphins, head coach Antonio Pierce announced Wednesday.
“When we brought in Gardner, we expected the play we’ve seen in the past. At some point, you got to give the guy confidence,” Pierce said to media via the Raiders website. “There have been times when turnovers and other things have taken place. We have made a decision to go with another quarterback. This week, I felt Gardner gives us the best opportunity to move forward. He has every opportunity to get us to a win.”
Pierce wants his quarterback and the Raiders to forget about the first nine weeks of the season and keep their vision on the final eight weeks of the season.
“Starts with belief. Let him know to go out there and let it go. Let it loose,” Pierce said. “What have we got to lose at this point? 2-7, so everything that’s behind is behind us. I’m looking forward to everything in front of me.”
Minshew didn’t know initially how to respond when asked about his coach’s vote of confidence but added he’s grateful for the opportunity to start against the Dolphins.
“I’m happy to help the team in any way I can,” Minshew said via the Raiders website. “Whatever it takes, we got to find a way to win.”
