Raiders Named Potential Destination For Star Cornerback

The Las Vegas Raiders have plenty of cap room to play with this offseason, and considering they have a need at cornerback, they could spend considerable money at the position.

Well, the Raiders have already been linked to one of the top cornerbacks hitting the free-agent market next month, as Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda has mentioned them as a potential destination for Kansas City Chiefs star L’Jarius Sneed.

Pauline notes that the Chiefs could end up slapping a franchise tag on Sneed, a move that would cost them in the neighborhood of $19 million. But, if Sneed hits the open market, he is projected to sign a long-term deal worth somewhere around $18.5 million annually.

Kansas City has been known to part ways with star players that are becoming too expensive, which was why the club traded wide receiver Tyreek Hill two years ago.

If the Chiefs let Sneed walk, Las Vegas would certainly make sense as a possible landing spot.

Sneed is coming off of a 2023-24 campaign in which he played 16 games and registered 78 tackles, a couple of interceptions, a fumble recovery and 14 passes defended.

The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Louisiana Tech, was selected by Kansas City in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Injuries limited him to nine contests during his rookie year, but the following season, Sneed participated in 15 games and recorded 76 tackles, a sack, a pair of picks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and eight passes defended.

Sneed then enjoyed a breakout year of sorts in 2022, appearing in every game and racking up 108 tackles, 3.5 sacks, three interceptions, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and 11 passes defended.

We’ll see if the Raiders make a play for Sneed in the coming weeks.
