Raiders Need Answers At Running Back
Matt Krohn-USA TODAY Sports

The Raiders will not have the luxury of having to depend on Josh Jacobs running through the gaps anymore. The veteran running back has taken his services to the Green Bay, the Raiders are in need of a reliable running back to step up and fill in a huge void left in the backfield.

New addition

Alexander Mattison signed on March 18th, 2024. Last season for Minnesota Mattison had 180 carries for 700 yards and scored 3 touchdowns in 16 games in 2023. His season was very disappointing considering the fact that the starting role was his with the departure of Dalvin Cook. The Vikings were looking for Mattison to become a possible long term solution for them moving forward and that didn’t happen and the Vikings end up letting him walk.

Hoping for a fresh start with the Raiders, Mattison is feeling good about his chances in becoming a starter for the Silver and Black. Looking at some of his workouts in OTA’s you can see his potential, he’s the ideal combo back. He’s a good pass catcher out of the backfield which gives him more versatility than anyone else in the backfield.

Returning veteran

Zamir White is the returning veteran in the backfield, coming into year #3 for the Raiders. Last season was the best season for the Georgia product, White finished with 104 carries for 451 yards and scored one touchdown in 17 games. You can visualize his potential in a physical offense and tiring opposing defenses out. White is going to be essential in setting the tone for a physical running attack for the Silver and Black. The organization is very excited to see the continued progress in White as his workload is expected to increase.

The competition between Mattison and White will surely be one of the top position battles to watch for this off season. We have two young backs that are trying to assert themselves as the starter. But at the end of the day, both players do completement each other well so either way both players will have the opportunity to have an impact season for the Raiders.
