The Las Vegas Raiders have a few important veterans on expiring contracts, but none of them are as important as left tackle Kolton Miller. He's started at the most important spot on the team's offensive line for seven straight years.
While he did get off to a rocky start last season, coming off a shoulder injury, he eventually settled in and played well again. On Tuesday, Miller made it clear that he wants to stay in Las Vegas going forward.
“I want to be a Raider for life,” Miller said. “I love it here. I don’t want to go anywhere else.”
However, Miller is in the last year of his deal and has no more guaranteed money left. New general manager John Spytek gave early extensions to Maxx Crosby and AJ Cole, but doesn't seem as motivated to pay the left tackle.
According to Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, there has been little progress in working on a new deal.
"Miller is heading into the final year of the contract extension he signed in 2021," Bonsignore wrote. "He and the Raiders are not close on a new deal, according to a person with knowledge of the situation."
It's not clear why the Raiders would avoid extending Miller. He's Pro Football Focus's 12th-ranked offensive tackle in the NFL, and he's still only 29. Spytek values offensive linemen, so perhaps he wants to see the veteran play more before he gives him more money.
For his part, Miller isn't interested in holding out yet.
“I only know one way to do it,” Miller told reporters. “And that’s showing up and getting better each day.”
