Raiders owner Mark Davis buys WNBA's Las Vegas Aces

Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis has made a new addition to his catalog.

On Thursday, the WNBA announced that Davis has acquired the Las Vegas Aces from MGM Resorts International.

"I am excited to announce that I have entered into an agreement to purchase the Las Vegas franchise in the WNBA from MGM Resorts International," Davis said in the prepared statement. "I will have more to say once I receive official approval from the WNBA Board of Governors and have had a chance to speak with the players, coaches and administrators of the team."

Davis' Oakland Raiders officially completed their relocation to Las Vegas following the 2019 NFL season. As noted by The Associated Press (h/t ESPN), he's become a fixture at events such as Aces games and contests hosted by the NHL's Vegas Golden Knights. Davis' Raiders have a working relationship with MGM.

"We can confirm we have entered into an agreement to sell the Las Vegas Aces to Mark Davis and are awaiting approval from the WNBA Board of Governors," MGM Resorts International President of Entertainment and Sports George Kliavkoff added. "Mark is a longtime champion of women’s basketball and we believe he is the right person to lead the Aces into a new era. We will continue our enthusiastic support of the WNBA, NBA and basketball in Las Vegas."

The Aces franchise has competed in the WNBA Finals twice and lost on both occasions. Las Vegas fell to the Seattle Storm in the 2020 Finals.
