The Las Vegas Raiders defensive line should be the strength of the defense this season, but that might not be the case if star defensive tackle Christian Wilkins can't play due to injury. Maxx Crosby and Malcolm Koonce should form a formidable duo at the two defense ends spots, but it's unclear what kind of role Tyree Wilson will have.
He was a top-10 draft pick in 2023, but hasn't been able to live up to his draft status. The Raiders have occasionally lined him up at defensive tackle to take advantage of his size. If Wilkins is out, Las Vegas might want to consider giving Wilson more snaps on the inside.
In fact, Moe Moton of Bleacher Report is predicting that the Raiders will move Wilson to defensive tackle on a more permanent basis.
"At 6'6", 275 pounds, Tyree Wilson has lined up inside in a pinch over the last two years," Moton wrote. "If he bulks up, the versatile defensive lineman can take on more snaps on the interior. The Raiders can experiment with his role to get more production out of the 2023 first-rounder.
"In 33 games, Wilson has recorded 56 tackles, eight for loss, eight sacks and 28 pressures. Because of his gradual development and the return of Malcolm Koonce on the edge, he may have more opportunities at defensive tackle."
Wilson still has big-time potential, but there may not be a lot of opporutnity for him to see the field at defnesive end. His best path to getting his snap count up could be moving to the inside.
