The Las Vegas Raiders have to be licking their chops after watching Monday Night Football.
Coming off a 19-14 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, the Raiders could sit back and get an advance look at their next opponent in the New Orleans Saints.
The Saints were carrying an injury-riddled squad against the Green Bay Packers, so it was fair to assume their chances of victory were slim coming into the game.
After the game, however, Raiders fans hoping their team can lose out and keep their hopes of drafting a franchise quarterback alive received an ill omen.
The Saints proceeded to be dominated by the Packers 34-0, becoming the first team this season to suffer a shutout. Everything from basic statistics to the eye test all reflected poorly on the Saints’ performance.
The offense could only generate 198 total yards. Backup quarterback and fourth-round rookie Spencer Rattler received zero help from anybody. The running back room could get nothing going on the ground, the receiving corps showed how demolished it was by injury, and the offensive line was pushed around all game long.
The defense was bad in equal measure, giving up 404 yards to the Packers. Packers quarterback Jordan Love and even backup quarterback Malik Willis looked like they could move the ball with relative ease. There was minimal resistance from the Saints and, by the time they finally got the Packers to punt, the game felt out of reach.
As a result, Sunday’s game against the Saints in New Orleans went from a winnable game to one where the Raiders are actually the ones to carry positive momentum going in.
Sure, there’s a chance the Saints come in embarrassed and want to play their best for their fans in their home finale. That said, the Raiders have seen firsthand how injuries can affect a team, and it is hard to imagine what pushback the Saints have with their roster in shambles.
As it stands, the Raiders catch another reeling opponent just like they did last week. The tank enthusiasts now stand face-to-face with their worst fear: a Raiders winning streak.
