The Las Vegas Raiders have reportedly landed on a new general manager, one who is a familiar face to partial owner Tom Brady.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport , the Raiders are expected to hire Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant general manager John Spytek.
The 44-year-old executive joined the Bucs as director of player personnel in 2016 and later became the vice president of player personnel before being elevated to AGM in 2023. He was part of the brain trust that built Tampa Bay's Super Bowl LV-winning team, which, of course, featured Brady at the helm.
Spytek, in particular, played a key role in bringing Brady to the Buccaneers.
One key reason for Spytek and Brady's connection is that the duo played together at Michigan during the 1999 college football season when Brady was a senior. Spytek was an outside linebacker and played largely on special teams, although he did not play his freshman year.
Spytek will take over as general manager following the Raiders' dismissal of Tom Telesco after just one year at the helm. The Raiders underperformed their preseason over/under of 6.5 wins with a 4-13 record — which also cost head coach Antonio Pierce his job — but still had some silver linings.
Telesco's first draft pick of tight end Brock Bowers has been a smashing success, with with rookie records of 108 receptions (most at any position) and 1,144 yards (most among tight ends). Maxx Crosby remains one of the league's premier pass rushers, giving them a blue chip talent on each side of the ball.
