Raiders' Tyree Wilson Placed on NFI, Byron Young on PUP
USA TODAY Sports

The Las Vegas Raiders announced some very important news regarding two of their defensive rookies on Friday.

Per a tweet from the club, Raiders' first-round defensive end Tyree Wilson has been placed on the non-football injury list following his foot injury he suffered in his final year with Texas Tech.

Wilson will be able to work on conditioning as the season approaches, with an opportunity to be activated before then.

This should not come as a surprise for readers of Raiders Today, as our own Hondo S. Carpenter Sr. recently reported that Wilson's participation with the team would be a slow process.

Wilson did not practice in minicamp this past spring.

Prior to his season-ending injury back in November, Wilson had recorded 61 combined tackles, 14 for losses, seven sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

Despite playing just 10 games for the Red Raiders in his senior season, Wilson would be named to the Pro Football Writers of America's All-America First Team, as well as the All-Big Ten First team by league coaches, the Associated Press, and Phil Steale.

The Raiders also revealed one of the Raiders' third-round picks from this year's draft, defensive tackle Byron Young, has been placed on the physically unable to perform list.

Unlike the Wilson news, this report comes rather unexpected.

Young played four years at Alabama, where he won a national title in the 2020-21 campaign.

He totaled 139 combined tackles, 22.5 for losses, 7.5 sacks, three passes defensed, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery in his time as a member of the Crimson Tide.

Young's senior season was his best, having finished with 47 combined tackles, five for losses, 3.5 sacks, two passes defensed, and one forced fumble.

He would be named to the All-America Second Team by the American Football Coaches Association and the All-Big Ten First Team by the Associated Press.

The Las Vegas Raiders open training camp for the entire team on July 25, 2023.

The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
