Prior to the start of the regular season, Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers requested a trade as the two sides were unable to come to terms on a contract extension. Meyers is in the final season of the three-year deal he signed with the Raiders in 2023 and has been open about his desire to remain with the team going forward.

But with him and the Raiders unable to reach a new deal, Meyers wanted to be traded to a team where he could secure a long-term future. He would choose not to hold out, however, and do his best to contribute to the Raiders, but the team overall has struggled with a 2-5 record so far.

Now, with the NFL trade deadline fast approaching, rumors about a potential Meyers trade have resurfaced, and Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports there’s a ‘decent chance’ the Raiders deal him.

Teams I’ve talked to believe that Meyers has a decent chance to be dealt — possibly the best chance among available wide receivers. Las Vegas has received interest in the seven-year veteran, and my sense is the Raiders want a strong pick for Meyers. A swap of Day 3 picks won’t do at this stage.

Several teams are believed to be in the receiver market, most notably the Steelers and possibly the Broncos and Bills. Meyers clearly wants out, and the Raiders are in a transitional phase. They just signed veteran Tyler Lockett, which could ease the loss of dealing Meyers. Pittsburgh is keeping tabs on this one but is prepared to be patient, too. If I had to predict a destination right now, I’d say the Steelers.

The fact that the Raiders are receiving interest in Meyers would seem to make a potential deal more likely, but it could come down to whether the Raiders can get a proper return on the receiver. Meyers is coming off his first career 1,000-yard season and has proven himself to be an extremely reliable player over the past couple of years.

The Raiders had hopes of a postseason push coming into the season, and they still could be holding on to that coming out of the bye week. But if they fall to the Jacksonville Jaguars and drop to 2-6, those playoff hopes will be all but dashed and could make a Meyers trade even more likely.

Raiders sign veteran receiver Tyler Lockett

Also adding to the likelihood of a Jakobi Meyers trade is the fact that the Raiders have signed veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett, who is extremely familiar with head coach Pete Carroll and quarterback Geno Smith from their time together in Seattle.
