Rams Bring in Veteran OT to Help Protect Matthew Stafford

The Los Angeles Rams allowed 31 sacks last season, which was the sixth fewest in the NFL.

However, the Rams are still committed to protecting quarterback Matthew Stafford. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Thursday that the franchise signed veteran offensive tackle David Quessenberry to a one-year deal.

Depth is never a bad thing on the offensive line, especially after the Rams chose not to extend former offensive lineman Joseph Noteboom. Noteboom has since signed with the Baltimore Ravens

Stafford agreed to a restructured contract that does not end with the team until the 2030 season, per Spotrac

Stafford threw for 3,792 passing yards, 20 touchdowns and eight interceptions last season.

Quessenberry played college football at San Jose State from 2009-2012. He was drafted in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans.

Despite being drafted in 2013, Quessenberry's NFL debut did not come until 2017. He suffered a season-ending foot injury in September of 2013 and was then diagnosed with lymphoma in the summer of 2014.

His final cancer treatment was in April of 2017, and he debuted later that season in December.

After a short stint with the Texans, he signed with the Tennessee Titans and played there from 2019-2021. He has also played for the Buffalo Bills(2022) and, most recently, the Minnesota Vikings (2023-24).

This offseason, the Rams took part in voting on a rule change in the NFL. The infamous "tush push" that the Philadelphia Eagles use was voted on whether to ban the play or not.

The ban was not upheld, but the Rams were one of the 22 teams that voted to abolish it.

The Rams open the 2025 season against the Texans on September 7.
