The Los Angeles Rams have arguably one of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL after adding Davante Adams to the roster, with Adams and Puka Nacua becoming fast friends.
Puka Nacua had one of the best rookie seasons in recent memory, and despite an injury-hampered 2024, still managed to record 990 receiving yards in 11 games.
Nacua and Matthew Stafford link up almost effortlessly every time they take the field together. Despite Stafford losing one of his favorite targets, Cooper Kupp, in the offseason, his replacement was just as good.
The Los Angeles Rams are very impressive at finding a way, and bringing in Davante Adams flew under the radar somewhat after a tough few years since leaving the Green Bay Packers.
After moving to California from the New York Jets, Adams revealed how he thinks he ‘woke up the beast’ in Puka Nacua, and how it’s paying dividends on the field.
Davante Adams joined Kay Adams to discuss his time at the Rams. His relationship with Nacua right now was compared to his time in 2016 with Jordy Nelson at the Packers, which he somewhat disagreed with.
Speaking on the Up and Adams show, Adams said, “Jordy and I were a little bit more like business. We had our handshake. It was, you know, buttoned up.
“We were more like suit and tie, you know, because Jordy didn’t have a lot of emotion out there, and I didn’t see a lot of it before I got here with Puka, too.
“So I think I’ve kind of woke up the beast inside of him a little bit. He got a little swag this year. We got the flex and the first down point and all that stuff.”
He continued: “I made a comment yesterday. I never really said, like, ‘Puka, I’m trying to give you a little bit more,’ but I’m noticing it this year, just based on how I am.
“I think Cooper [Kupp] makes so many plays that I think he’s gotten bored with celebrating. He’s kind of like a Hunter Renfrow. They’re gonna make a play and then just give the ball to the ref, which is fine.
“Act like you’ve been there before, but me, I like to show a little emotion, especially certain parts of the game. I think some of that rubbed off on him.”
It’s safe to say that Davante Adams is a fan of working under Sean McVay. He doesn’t mind that, for the first time in his career since becoming Aaron Rodgers‘ go-to guy, he isn’t the true WR1 on a team.
He is still getting the attention of a WR1, however, with star Tennessee Titans cornerback L’Jarius Sneed locked in on him for most of the game.
The Rams should be Super Bowl contenders this year, and Adams’ attitude is precisely why: “I hope every time I step out there, I hope to see everybody’s number one.”

He continued: “If it changes at any point, if Puka is beating up a defense and they switch it up, then, you know, I’ll gladly take the number two or whatever else you want to do from there.
“But that’s the good part about our offense. It’s kind of like pick your poison. You want to go cloud me, well then that’s going to give Puka more opportunities.
“And obviously, you know, if you’re playing a two-shell defense, that’s going to give Kyren Williams the opportunity or any of our backs to go and, you know, run the ball with less pressure and less issues.”
