Los Angeles Rams safety Tanner Ingle made a costly mistake against the Los Angeles Chargers in their second preseason matchup. The fringe-roster defender is fighting for his NFL career after being an undrafted free agent in 2023. Yet to log a regular-season statistic, Ingle tried to make an impact play against the Rams' starters when he went overboard with a hit.

He hit Chargers receiver Quentin Johnston high after the ball neared, delivering a concussion to the young starter. Right before the Rams took on the Cleveland Browns on Saturday, Ingle was issued a $4,666 fine.

Ingle's football journey began at Dr. Phillips High School, where he excelled, recording nine interceptions and nine touchdowns, earning first-team all-state honors and serving as team captain. Ingle committed to NC State University, where he played from 2018 to 2022.

Over five seasons, he appeared in 56 games, starting 50, and amassed 310 tackles, 23 for loss, three interceptions, 13 pass deflections, and three forced fumbles. His standout 2021 season, with 82 tackles and first-team All-ACC honors, highlighted his prowess. In 2022, he earned second-team All-ACC with 83 tackles and two interceptions, including a notable pick against rival North Carolina.

Undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, Ingle signed with the Rams as a free agent. He spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons on the practice squad, with brief waivers and re-signings, and secured reserve/future contracts in January 2024 and 2025. Ingle’s NFL preseason stats include a sack against Chargers quarterback Max Duggan and a pass deflection, showcasing his defensive tenacity.
