Though the Los Angeles Rams signed Jimmy Garoppolo, Les Snead and the rest of the front office have to decide on the future of the fourth-round pick out of Georgia, Stetson Bennett.

The 26-year-old won the backup job to Matthew Stafford before the start of the 2023 NFL season. However, personal issues resulted in the two-time national championship-winning quarterback missing the season.

After a hard year, Bennet is back. During an event at the Macon Touchdown Club on Monday, his former head coach, Kirby Smart, provided a positive update on Bennett, who is currently training in Texas.

"Stetson is doing well," Smart said. "He went back to Dallas to train where he trained last year. He trained with Patrick Mahomes' trainer and some different people there. So he wanted to go back to that same footprint where he was training previously. The Rams still have him there. They have gotten other quarterbacks (Jimmy Garoppolo), but he's hopeful that he gets an opportunity there or he'll get picked up by somebody else."

Smart said Bennett spent the 2023 season in Athens at Georgia’s facility before heading to Dallas to train with other incoming rookies.

“He’s been in our place during the season and he went out to Dallas to train with the other rising draft picks, so he trained with a group that was one year below him,” Smart said.

The Rams may be operating as though Bennett's time with the team is over, he actually may make a return in the 2024 season – in L.A. or not.
