Rams Get Unfortunate News Right After Wild-Card Playoff Win Over Vikings

The Los Angeles Rams ended the Minnesota Vikings’ season on Monday with their 27-9 wild-card win in Arizona, but it may have come at a price.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford threw for 209 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions with a 117.7 passer rating, but he did so without one of his top targets for much of the second half.

Tight end Tyler Higbee had an impressive first two quarters, totaling five catches for 58 yards and coming up with key plays on L.A.’s first two drives that ended with 10 points on the board.

Higbee caught a big 23-yard pass on the Rams’ first drive that helped set up a Kyren Williams 5-yard touchdown catch. On the next drive, Higbee had catches of nine yards and two for 11 yards, with the second one picking up most of a third-and-16 and getting the team into field-goal range for Joshua Karty, who hit a 34-yarder to extend L.A.’s lead to 10-0.

But Higbee didn’t come out of the locker room for the second half due to a chest injury that was serious enough that he had to be rushed to the hospital. Head coach Sean McVay said after the win that the 32-year-old’s prognosis is still up in the air.

“It was something with his chest,” McVay told reporters. “I think he's going to be OK. What does that mean in terms of his status moving forward? I don't know.”

Losing Higbee would be a big blow to the Rams’ passing attack.

L.A. just got Higbee back on Dec. 22 after he missed the first 15 games of the season while recovering from a torn ACL suffered in a wild-card game against the Detroit Lions last January.

He ranked third on the Rams in receptions (47) targets (70) and receiving yards (495) a season ago.
