Rams HC Sean McVay has impressive streak on the line against Bills

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay is on the short list of best coaches in the NFL, and his resume speaks for itself.

In his first five years on the Rams sidelines, his team has never had a losing record, has made the playoffs four times, and he has already been to two Super Bowls, winning last year's big game over the Cincinnati Bengals. His .679 regular-season winning percentage is not only tops among active coaches, but it is the 10th best all time.

By every objective measure, he has been an enormous success in Los Angeles, which brings us to another incredible McVay stat going into Thursday's season opener: In five years as the Rams' head coach, his team has never, at any point, even for a single game, been under .500.

That run is on the line on Thursday night in the 2022 NFL season opener when the Rams kick off against the Buffalo Bills.

Despite winning the Super Bowl a year ago, the Rams enter the game as home underdogs.

It is an extraordinarily impressive stat because the NFL is designed for teams to go through highs and lows and get knocked off the pedestal from time to time.

For some additional context on this: There are only four other teams in the league that have not had a losing season since McVay took over in 2017 (Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Kansas City and New Orleans), but each of them has experienced at least one week of under .500 during a season.

The worst the Rams have been under McVay is exactly .500 on just two different occasions. They were 1-1 after two weeks during the 2017 season and then 3-3 after six weeks during the 2019 season. Other than that? The Rams have always had a winning record under McVay.

That includes a five-game winning streak in season-opening games, three of which have been won by more than 20 points.
