Rams head coach Sean McVay wants to get WR Robert Woods 'more opportunities'

Robert Woods had been the go-to guy for the Los Angeles Rams with Jared Goff under center. That has changed with Matthew Stafford at quarterback.

Woods has just 15 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns on 25 targets this season. He previously averaged 132 targets per season.

After catching a touchdown pass in Sunday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Woods flipped the ball away, a sign that he could be frustrated with his role in the Los Angeles offense.

Rams head coach Sean McVay doesn't believe Woods is frustrated with his role and was simply showing frustration about the team's offensive struggles.

McVay added that he wants to get Woods more involved in the offense in the coming weeks:

"This guy's a stud in every sense of the word. It is important to be able to get a handful of guys involved," McVay said, according to NFL.com. "That's something that I always want to continue to be intentional about. I think that's one of the benefits that we do have is we've got five eligibles. Want to be able to spread that wealth while also making sure that sometimes I'm calling plays where guys are the primary and the coverage doesn't necessarily dictate where the read goes. So, when Robert's involved, that's a good thing for the Rams offense. That's something that we want to continue to see displayed, but Robert is a leader, he's a captain and he's been doing a great job up to this point. We just need to get him some more opportunities and that starts with me."

Cooper Kupp and Van Jefferson have been more involved in the Stafford-led offense than Woods. Kupp leads the Rams with 30 catches for 431 yards and five touchdowns on 46 targets, while Jefferson is second with 13 catches for 226 yards and two scores on 18 targets.

As opposing defenses realize the connection Stafford and Kupp have, more opportunities should open up for Woods, who has recorded two 1,000-plus yard seasons in his five years in L.A.

The 29-year-old could see more chances Thursday night against the Seattle Seahawks, which ranks 27th in pass defense.
