Rams Make Davis Allen Announcement After Leaving 49ers Game

The Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers kicked off their respective 2026 NFL campaigns with a Week 1 rivalry matchup on Thursday night. The two NFC West sides took their rivalry overseas for the new season’s first international game.

The Rams and the 49ers faced off in front of a packed crowd at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), marking the first-ever NFL game in Australia.

There was no shortage of action in the game. Unfortunately, multiple players also suffered injuries throughout the contest.

The 49ers ruled out rookie WR De’Zhaun Stribling due to a left ankle injury, while tight end Jake Tonges was deemed questionable to return due to a right knee issue.

Rams tight end Davis Allen was also forced to leave the game in the third quarter. The fourth-year player caught a pass from quarterback Matthew Stafford. Allen took a hard hit from a couple of Niners players, who appeared to make contact with Allen’s head as he went out of bounds.

Allen was slow to get up and seemed to stumble as he walked back on the field. The Rams decided to take him out of the game. After spending time in the blue tent, Allen was carted off to the locker room for further testing.

The Rams then announced the TE’s status.

Allen exited the game after logging 13 receiving yards on one reception. It remains to be seen if he will return after his suspected head injury. If he is diagnosed with a concussion, it is possible that the 25-year-old is forced to miss multiple games under the league’s concussion protocol.

The 49ers are well in control of this one. As of this writing, San Francisco is up 27-7 with nine minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
