Watching your spouse take brutal hits on the football field is never easy, but Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford’s wife, Kelly, found a silver lining after the Los Angeles Rams’ Week 3 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
On her Morning After podcast, Kelly described the moment when Stafford “got his nuts crushed” during the game. While painful to watch, she found humor in the situation.
“As women, we don’t know what this feels like, right? I looked at him and I said, ‘Well, you know what? That’s God’s way of taking care of your vasectomy since you haven’t done it in the last two years,’” Kelly recalled.
Matthew, unsurprisingly, did not share the joke, but Kelly was relieved that the hit didn’t result in a more serious injury. Stafford, who has battled back issues over the summer, briefly stayed down in the third quarter but later confirmed he was fine.
“No, I got knee’d where you don’t want to get knee’d. And so I was just taking a moment for myself to figure that one out, but I’m good. Thank you,” Stafford said postgame.

Despite holding a 19-point lead at one stage, the Rams could not hold off Philadelphia. After leading 26-9 in the third quarter, Jalen Hurts and the Eagles responded with 26 unanswered points to complete the comeback. Stafford led the team on a final drive, giving kicker Joshua Karty a chance at a game-winning 44-yard field goal—but it was blocked and recovered by Jordan Davis.
“Learn from it. There’s so many other plays in this game that we can learn from and be better. First and foremost, myself. Disappointed with how I threw it in some instances today,” Stafford admitted, emphasizing the need to trust the process moving forward.
Stafford remains ninth in the NFL in passing yards with 739 through three games, posting five touchdowns and two interceptions. Married to Kelly since 2015, the couple has four daughters, and Kelly has been by his side throughout his entire NFL journey.
Looking ahead, the Rams face an undefeated Indianapolis Colts team in Week 4 at home. Stafford is confident in the locker room’s chemistry and head coach Sean McVay’s process.
“I’ve got no questions or no concerns about how we’ll respond…Got another one next week, big-time opponent and got to be ready to go,” Stafford said, signaling readiness to bounce back from a tough Week 3 loss.
Despite the defeat and Stafford’s painful hit, optimism remains in Los Angeles, thanks to Stafford’s resilience and Kelly’s unique sense of humor.
