Rams’ Matthew Stafford Shares Injury Update On Painful 3rd Quarter Hit
NFL: NFC Divisional Round-Los Angeles Rams at Philadelphia Eagles Eric Hartline-Imagn Images

Early in the third quarter of the Los Angeles Rams’ matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, quarterback Matthew Stafford was slow to get up after taking a hard hit. Given that Stafford had dealt with back issues throughout the summer, many feared the worst when he appeared to be in significant pain on the field.

But after the game, Stafford cleared up the speculation.

“I think you know what happened there. You can go check the tape,” Stafford explained with a smile. “No, I got knee’d where you don’t want to get knee’d. And so I was just taking a moment for myself to figure that one out, but I’m good. Thank you.”

While the scare looked serious, it turned out to be nothing more than an uncomfortable moment that Stafford was able to laugh off.

The hit wasn’t the only painful part of the afternoon. The Rams let a 19-point lead slip away, giving up 26 unanswered points in the second half on their way to a crushing loss to the defending NFC champions.

Much of the postgame conversation focused on kicker Joshua Karty’s two blocked field goals, but Stafford was quick to remind that there were plenty of other mistakes that contributed to the defeat.

“Learn from it,” Stafford said. “There’s so many other plays in this game that we can learn from and be better. First and foremost, myself. Disappointed with how I threw it in some instances today. Just go back to it, continue to work hard and know that what you’re doing and the process that we’re doing is the right thing and find ways to win games.”

Confidence Moving Forward

Despite the late collapse, Stafford expressed confidence that the Rams will bounce back. He pointed to the tight-knit locker room and the process emphasized by head coach Sean McVay as reasons for optimism.

“I’ve got no questions or no concerns about how we’ll respond,” Stafford said. “Bunch of guys that care about each other, care about doing stuff the right way, understand that our process – you know, trust that process that we have week in and week out going to work. Come with the same mindset, whether we won this game or lost this game. Got another one next week, big-time opponent and got to be ready to go.”

What’s Next for Los Angeles

The Rams now turn their attention to a home matchup against the undefeated Indianapolis Colts, who have looked sharp against the Dolphins, Broncos, and Titans. The loss to Philadelphia stings, but with McVay’s steady leadership and Stafford’s resilience, the Rams remain well-positioned to regroup quickly.
