The Los Angeles Rams are preparing for another week without Davante Adams, and the implications extend far beyond one missing name on the injury report.
Adams, who leads the NFL in receiving touchdowns, missed his first game of the season in Week 16 due to a lingering hamstring injury. Rams head coach Sean McVay indicated that the star wide receiver is unlikely to return for Week 17 against the Atlanta Falcons.
“I would say, most likely, he will not be available,” McVay told reporters, adding that the team has not discussed shutting Adams down until the postseason.
The cautious approach reflects both the timing of the injury and Adams’ importance to the offense.

Adams’ absence strips the Rams of their most reliable scoring weapon. Through Week 16, the six-time Pro Bowler leads the league with 14 receiving touchdowns, converting an unusually high percentage of his opportunities into points.
You don’t replace that production.
“You don’t ever replace a player like him,” McVay said. “He’s a special player… You don’t ask one receiver to take over his production. It’s by a committee.”
While Los Angeles can distribute targets across multiple receivers, Adams’ value lies in the moments that decide games—particularly in the red zone. His size, route precision, and chemistry with Matthew Stafford make him the Rams’ most trusted option near the goal line.
Statistically, Adams commands the majority of the team’s goal-line targets and converts them into touchdowns at an elite rate, giving the Rams a margin for error that simply doesn’t exist without him.

Without Adams on the field, the Rams lose their most automatic answer inside the 10-yard line. Even when the offense moves the ball efficiently, the absence of Adams often turns touchdowns into field-goal attempts.
That margin matters late in the season.
Adams’ presence forces defensive adjustments, opening space for teammates even when he isn’t targeted. Without him, defenses can tighten coverage elsewhere and challenge Los Angeles to finish drives the hard way.
McVay emphasized that Adams is pushing to return but that the final decision will be made collaboratively.
“We really take it a little bit at a time,” McVay said. “This guy’s a great competitor. He wants to be out there… it’s our job to be able to figure out what is best collectively with him.”
For now, the Rams are left to navigate a critical stretch without their most dependable scorer. Whether Adams returns before the postseason remains uncertain—but what the Rams miss in his absence is already clear.
