One of the Rams to exit their Broncos shootout with an injury issue, Terrance Ferguson will be shut down for a while. Los Angeles placed the second-year tight end on IR ahead of its Week 4 game.
An ankle injury will move Ferguson off the roster. The 2025 second-round pick, who played a part-time role as a rookie before logging a 43% snap share this season, entered Week 3 with an ankle ailment. He had upgraded to full participation by the Rams’ Friday practice ahead of their Broncos matchup, but the Oregon product came up lame in the first half and did not return.
A year after the Rams made an effort to trade up for Brock Bowers, they drafted Ferguson with their top pick (the team had traded its first-rounder to the Falcons, who drafted James Pearce). The Oregon product had closed his Ducks career with a 591-yard season, entering the NFL with 16 touchdown receptions for the West Coast program. Ferguson caught 11 passes for 231 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie. He tallied seven catches for 63 yards and one score this season.
Although the Rams are reeling at other positions, they are well equipped to handle a tight end loss. L.A. came into the season carrying five TEs on its 53-man roster. The team re-signed Tyler Higbee and has Colby Parkinson and Davis Allen rostered; Ohio State product Max Klare arrived in this year’s second round. Ferguson’s injury opens the door for Klare, who has not played an offensive snap yet.
The Rams did not use any IR-return designations on cutdown day, but their activation equation already includes some notable pieces — headlined by Myles Garrett. Rookie third-round tackle Keagan Trost is also on short-term IR. Teams have eight injury activations to use in the regular season, with two more being granted to playoff teams once the postseason starts.
