A Los Angeles Rams defender is backtracking on his recent comments about Los Angeles Chargers star quarterback Justin Herbert.
Rams safety Quentin Lake told reporters after practice on Friday that he texted a direct apology to Herbert. The apology came in the wake of some mocking comments that Lake made about Herbert after the Rams’ victory over the Chargers in Week 8.
“I don’t know if he read it,” said Lake of Herbert, per the Los Angeles Times. “He probably says, ‘I don’t care about it anymore. I’m not trying to see this. It doesn’t matter. You said what you said.’ But at the same time I … felt like it was right for me to at least say, ‘Hey, man, I didn’t mean it in any disrespectful way.’”
The Rams beat the Chargers by a final score of 24-9 last Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. (dropping the Chargers to 0-7 on the year). Herbert threw two interceptions with zero TDs and looked so sad on the sideline at one point during the loss.
After the game, Lake went on a podcast and proceeded to clown the former Pro Bowler Herbert. Lake notably said that Herbert was “throwing deli meat” and “seeing ghosts” during their matchup.
Now Lake is trying to take back his comments a couple of days later. The Rams and the Chargers do not meet again this regular season though, so it may take a while for the score to be properly settled between Lake and Herbert.
