After an NFC Championship Game loss to the Seattle Seahawks, the Los Angeles Rams have worked to upgrade their defense. Along with trading for cornerback Trent McDuffie, Los Angeles signed cornerback Jaylen Watson and linebacker Grant Stuard in free agency.
The Rams are hoping the unit improves after finishing the 2025 NFL season ranked 10th in points allowed per game (20.4) and 17th in total yards allowed per game (327.5). While many of the top free agents have already signed with new teams, a handful of intriguing options are still available.
Zachary Rotman of Fansided predicts the Rams will reunite with a familiar face and sign 35-year-old linebacker Bobby Wagner.
"He should generate interest around the league, but given his age, Wagner will probably want to join a contender, especially after how poorly the 2025 season went for the Commanders," Rotman wrote. "The Los Angeles Rams are a team firmly entrenched in Super Bowl contention, offer Wagner some familiarity, as the veteran played for the team in 2022, and could use a linebacker."
Wagner began his career as a Seahawks second-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. He spent 10 years with Seattle before joining the Rams in 2022. He started all 17 games that season and earned Second-Team All-Pro honors.
Wagner then returned to Seattle for a one-year stint in 2023, before landing with the Washington Commanders, where he has played the last two seasons. He was still effective in 2025, racking up 162 tackles, eight tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and two interceptions. His Pro Football Focus overall grade of 78.6 was the ninth-highest among 88 qualified linebackers.
Now heading into his 15th NFL season, the 10-time Pro Bowler is looking to win a second-career Super Bowl. If the Rams are interested, it wouldn't cost them much. Spotrac projects Wagner's market value will earn him a one-year, $7.6 million contract.
