Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay was finally willing to address quarterback Matthew Stafford’s future on Monday.

McVay admitted that he does not know for sure whether Stafford will return as quarterback next year.

The Rams would welcome Stafford back, but there is no timetable for a potential decision.

“Our hope is that he does, but with respect to his timetable … we’ll let him be able to do that,” McVay said.

The Rams sounded optimistic about Stafford returning, but at this point, they are used to the annual offseason speculation about the quarterback’s future. At 37, Stafford is essentially taking things year-by-year at this point.

Up until this point, the Rams very much did not want to discuss Stafford’s future, though their last chance came when emotions were high. It may be a few weeks or longer before we get any clarity on the situation.
