The Los Angeles Rams may not be as far removed from getting Davante Adams back as it appeared just days ago, though caution remains the guiding principle.
According to Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times, Adams’ hamstring injury is “making progress toward return”, but head coach Sean McVay said the star wide receiver will be monitored throughout the week before any determination is made.
That marks a subtle but meaningful shift from last week, when Adams was ruled out of his first game of the season. While nothing is guaranteed ahead of Week 17, the door is no longer firmly closed.
For a Rams team navigating the stretch run with postseason stakes in play, Adams’ status continues to loom large.
Adams leads the NFL in receiving touchdowns and remains the Rams’ most trusted scoring option, particularly in tight situations. That reality is precisely why Los Angeles is resisting the urge to push him back prematurely.
McVay has repeatedly emphasized a collaborative approach when it comes to Adams’ health, balancing the receiver’s competitiveness with long-term availability.
“This guy’s a great competitor. He wants to be out there,” McVay said earlier this week. “It’s our job to figure out what’s best collectively with him.”
Hamstring injuries are notoriously tricky, and the Rams know a setback now could cost them far more than a single regular-season game.

When Adams isn’t on the field, the Rams lose far more than volume production.
Through 16 weeks, Adams has totaled 60 receptions for 789 yards and 14 touchdowns on 114 targets. His impact is most pronounced in the red zone, where 12 of his 14 touchdowns have come.
That efficiency is nearly impossible to replicate.
“You don’t ever replace a player like him,” McVay said. “You don’t ask one receiver to take over his production. It’s by a committee.”
Still, the committee approach comes with limitations. Adams’ size, route precision, and chemistry with Matthew Stafford give the Rams a margin for error near the goal line that simply disappears without him.

Adams’ value shows up most clearly in critical moments:
Even when his catch rate dips in tight spaces, his ability to convert limited opportunities into points changes defensive behavior. Without him, opponents can compress the field and force Los Angeles to execute longer, more precise drives.
That difference often shows up on the scoreboard.
For now, Adams remains day-to-day, with progress noted but no firm commitment made. The Rams will continue evaluating how his hamstring responds as the week unfolds.
Whether Adams returns before the postseason remains uncertain. What’s clear is that Los Angeles understands exactly what it loses without him—and why patience now could pay dividends later.
If Adams does make it back, the Rams’ offense immediately regains its most reliable answer when the game tightens and the stakes rise.
