Rams to allow linebacker Troy Reeder to reach free agency

The Los Angeles Rams chose not to tender starting linebacker Troy Reeder on Thursday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, which means the restricted free agent will hit the open market.

Reeder, 27, joined the Rams as an undrafted free agent following the 2019 NFL Draft and worked his way into the starting lineup with 25 regular season starts in the last three years. He started three of the team's playoff games leading up to Super Bowl LVI, although he was left out of the starting lineup against the Cincinnati Bengals due to the return of Ernest Jones from an ankle injury.

It was the emergence of Jones, a 22-year-old linebacker who was a third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, that likely spelled the end of Reeder's time with the Rams.

Still, it would've cost Los Angeles just $2.433 million to apply the lowest level tender to Reeder and likely retain the linebacker.

Reeder has five sacks over the last two seasons and two interceptions in 2021. His 91 total tackles were third on the team behind safeties Jordan Fuller and Taylor Rapp.
