In Week 13 of the 2024 NFL season, NFL legend Randy Moss made an Instagram post revealing he was dealing with a serious health issue that left many fans concerned.
Less than a week later, the former Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots wide receiver had to take a leave of absence from his job as an analyst on ESPN's "Sunday Night Countdown, with ESPN stating Moss will "step away from 'Sunday NFL Countdown' for an extended time to focus on a personal health challenge."
Late Tuesday evening, Larry Fitzgerald Sr., the father of former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald Jr., revealed in a post on X the possible illness Moss is dealing with: liver cancer. The post has since been deleted.
"66th NFF Hall of Fame Ceremony here in Las Vegas just heard that Vikings HOF Randy Moss has liver cancer," Fitzgerald Sr. wrote on X. "Let’s show the power of prayer and pull Moss through this. I love you, Randy."
Moss' son, Thaddeus Moss, later shot down this report, calling Fitzgerald Sr. out for his "disgusting" message. This reply has also been deleted.
"This is disgusting," Thaddeus Moss replied to Fitzgerald Sr. on X. "You have no right to try to make private matters public for the sake of engagement. I do not believe my father talks to you, so check your (expletive) sources."
Thaddeus Moss also shared a message with Brett Favre, saying the reported liver cancer Moss was dealing with was "not true."
Now, Randy Moss himself has spoken for the first time since Fitzgerald Sr.'s post, revealing the truth behind this on Friday afternoon on Instagram Live.
Moss is, in fact, a cancer survivor.
"Y'all know I've told y'all over the last couple of weeks about me battling something internally," Moss said. "Your boy is a cancer survivor... So, I did have cancer. They found it in the bile duct, right between the pancreas and the liver. The cancer was sitting right outside the bile duct... Had six-hour surgery. I had a Whipple procedure... Things did take a turn for the worse. I asked for my prayer warriors. I asked for my family to be able to surround me, to put their hands on me through these trying times, and y'all best believe your boy came through."
