The Detroit Lions completed a statement win on Sunday in Ben Johnson's first trip back to Ford Field as the Chicago Bears' coach, outscoring the Bears by more than four touchdowns and never trailing.
Jared Goff went 23-of-28 for 334 yards and five touchdowns, three to Amon-Ra St. Brown, while Detroit piled up more than 500 yards and 25 first downs.
Chicago’s Caleb Williams, meanwhile, finished 19-of-30 for 207 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, adding 27 rushing yards on five attempts; his two scoring throws both found Rome Odunze, who posted seven catches for a career-high 128 yards.
Now, one NFL legend’s pregame pick for the Bears is back in the spotlight.
Just before kickoff, Randy Moss said on "Sunday NFL Countdown" that Chicago’s quarterback would be the difference on the road and that Johnson’s plan would travel.
"I think that Ben Johnson understands what he wants to do with his quarterback. When he's in the pocket, when he leaves the pocket, he is still going to be dangerous on the road today," Moss said. "I think it will be a tough one, but I think Ben Johnson and the Chicago Bears are going to get it done on the road."
Detroit led 28-14 at halftime and outscored Chicago 24-7 after the break, leading to a dominant 52-21 victory.
In Week 1 against the Minnesota Vikings, Williams posted 210 passing yards on 21-of-35 passing and two total TDs without a pick, while rushing for 58 yards on six carries.
However, his performance wasn't without criticism, as sustained drives late remained elusive.
Chicago is now 0-2 after losses to Minnesota (27-24) and Detroit in their first season under Johnson, hired after a 5-12 campaign and an in-season coaching change a year ago.
The Bears' next chance to secure their first win of the season comes in a matchup against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, September 21, at Soldier Field.
