Free Agency is over. The Draft has come and gone. Barring some last minute additions, the Packers have made the changes they plan to in preparation for next season. So with that in mind who are the most important additions that Green Bay has made this offseason?
These rankings will go from the least to the most important additions that the Packers have made this offseason, and will not be limited to just players, but coaches as well.
Quality control coaches are essentially entry level coaching positions that fill in wherever needed. Fuchs gets the slight edge in terms of importance as he will be tasked with assisting new DC Jonathan Gannon.
While the Packers do have a long history of an undrafted free agent making the initial 53, we’re going to worry about that when one keeps popping up in camp reports. Jackson, one of two 6th round picks, will likely have a shot at earning special teams snaps, but doesn’t figure to be a big part of the Packers season beyond that.
A step up from the previously mentioned coaches, and an infusion of new ideas after the let down of last season. Babich was the “big name” of the group and along with Siefkes probably has the toughest job. If they can get 2nd round CB Brandon Cisse on the field early and make Green Bay’s secondary functional, you’ll definitely be hearing their names.
The top ten begins with half of the Packers draft class. McClellan will be immediately competing for playing time on the line with between Devonte Wyatt and Javon Hargrave. If he can help with shoring up the run defense he should see a lot of play time. Denis-Sutton is another player that could see early playing time with the departure of Rashan Gary. Burton doesn’t have the same opening to play time that the other two do, but anything is possible with how the line performed last year
You could argue that all three of these names are too high. I would counter by asking you to watch the Cleveland game. Or the Dallas Game. You could try the Eagles or Panthers games. Or if you really wanted to hurt yourself, the playoff game against the Bears. Every single one of those losses was impacted by special teams. Moore and Smack could be the difference between wins and losses. New ST coordinator Cam Achord is not going to have any patience from fans when it comes to fixing the biggest weakness of the LaFleur era.
It’s no coincidence that the top five is exclusively on the defense. The Packers offense was very good last year, and looks to be even better this season with hopefully full seasons from Tucker Kraft and Christian Watson. Along with a healthier offensive line fans should be very confident on that side of the ball.
The defense on the other hand fell short of expectations. Part of that can be contributed to Parsons injury, but the entire unit underperformed in the second half of the season. Cisse and St-Juste are not penciled in starters, but I wouldn’t be surprised if one or both were playing starter minutes in the back half of the season.
Hargrave and Franklin are both coming off down seasons with the Vikings and Colts respectively, but both are expected to start to open the season. Getting them to return to form is the job of Green Bay’s most important addition this off-season.
The Packers need their defense to get better. While Jeff Hafley certainly did a good job in his two years with the Packers (enough to earn a HC shot) he wasn’t able to adjust to losing Micah Parsons and the defense as a whole fell off in the back half of 2025.
Gannon is going to have to make due without Parsons to start the season in all likelihood, so being able to scheme up a solid defense is going to be very important to begin the season. There’s enough talent on every level of the unit to do that, so like the new ST coach, Gannon isn’t likely to have much of a honeymoon period with fans.
If the Packers defense falls apart again and the season ends in another 7th seed, this list could be lot longer next year, which makes Gannon the most important new addition to Green Bay for 2026/2027.
