Rashee Rice’s mother has package theft case dismissed

The mother of Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice received some good news as her package theft case has been dismissed. According to TMZ Sports, prosecutors in Tarrant County, Texas agreed to drop the misdemeanor case against Marsha Kearney after she fulfilled several conditions.

Per court documents, Kearney completed a theft intervention program and 24 hours of community service. Rice’s mother also paid $125 in restitution, and court officials told TMZ Sports the “case is now disposed.”

In October, Marsha Kearney was accused of stealing some Chappell Roan records off a neighbor’s porch. The incident happened on Sept. 29, and Kearney was reportedly seen stealing the items on a Ring doorbell camera. Kearney and Rice have not publicly commented on the allegations.

The case dismissal comes as Rice continues to recover from a knee injury he suffered during the fourth week of the season. In October, the former SMU Mustangs star underwent surgery to repair his LCL and hamstring. Rice caught 24 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns in four games this year.

How did Rashee Rice get injured this year?

“His surgery was not his ACL, it was the posterolateral corner, there was damage there,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said, per Sports Illustrated. “It’s probably the same result, though, as you’d get time-wise for an ACL. It takes a while for that to come back. He’ll get into his rehab and get rolling on that as we go here.”

Rice suffered the injury after colliding with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. “When I saw the replay, I felt like s*** that I hit Rashee,” Mahomes said at the time, per ESPN. “I wasn’t really worried about myself. I was worried about his injury and hopefully that it wasn’t as bad as it looked. I was the one that hit him. I didn’t notice it in the moment. I was more worried about trying to get the ball. Obviously, he’s just trying to make a play, and it happens whenever you’re trying to make tackles.”

Rice was ready to have a big 2024 season. During his rookie season in 2023, the 24-year-old caught 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns. Rice also set the NFL record for most postseason receptions by a rookie (26) and helped the Chiefs win the Super Bowl.
